The team rested its conclusions from their observations on 36 infants. The toddlers were shown a video depicting six fish. One version showed a video with a hand that points to each fish along with the verbal count from one to six. While other versions are also accompanied by the verbal count to six, but with hands that only refers to two fish continuously.
As a result, the toddlers were more watched a video that shows the correct count sequence.
"This shows that humans learn to count at an earlier age by counting routine exposure in culture,"concluded Professor Virginia Slaughter and her colleagues from the University of Queensland.
According to Professor Slaughter, research results that prove the toddler began to absorb the abstract principle of counting by observing the counting process right before it can count itself.
He also added, the children began to be counted after the age of two years. But before that, children see many examples of arithmetic that was exhibited parents, his brothers who are older or who is shown on television
